Ok ok! I promise a proper fantastic post would be coming right up - at least till i finish studying acoustics phonetics and spectograms analysis for the quiz day after tmr. Seeing how i'm distracted mid-way of my reading to update this blog with some super short irrelevant post as this shows how much i'm procrastinating and can prob guess that i won't be done anytime soon. Patience k? =)

2 commentsYou've Got Mail!
I received a package today, and it's from My Melati in Penang!!!!!
It was long awaited.. but nevertheless surprising to see a present sent to me by post allllll the way from Malaysia!!
Thank you Mel darling!I was complaining to her during the first 2 weeks of my stay in Canada, how life was so blue without friends.. how bland the food here is... And out of the blue, she said she was going to send me a parcel full of Raya goodies soon. The food she mentioned.. rendang.. kari.. raya cookies.. *drools* I thought it was a joke.. but she insisted she wasn't joking. I even urged her not to send it, cos it's so freaking EXPENSIVE! But she didn't listen to me, as usual.. haha.
And so, 2 mths later... Vince told me to go check my mail box for a parcel from Mel.. OMG!!! I was so excited, i checked my mail box EVERYDAY... n then after 2 weeks.. i thought the parcel have gotten lost somewhere. But then yesterday, i decided to give it a try, and there it was! A card in my mailbox that said "PARCEL AT DESK"! Whee~!!! And when i finally saw the box... my jaw literally dropped. I didn't expect her to send it in an A4 box!!!! And it was heavy!!! Oh Mel... you really shouldn't have gone through all the expense. But i really appreciate it!! I LOVE EVERYTHING u sent to me.. especially the birthday card n gift! Love you babe.. Can't wait to see you.. =)
Well, here are some pics!

The raya cookies, ketupat, kurma and sweets!
I'm thinking of having a mini raya celebration with these. hehe =)

I'm in love with Sarah McLachlan today.
This song specially goes out to Jun and to all the gals n guys out there who have no choice but to part with someone they know they can never be together with. Here's to those torn in between...
This song specially goes out to Jun and to all the gals n guys out there who have no choice but to part with someone they know they can never be together with. Here's to those torn in between...
Do What You Have To Do
What ravages of spirit
Conjured this temptuous rage
Created you a monster
Broken by the rule of love
And fate has led you through it
You do what you have to do
And fate has let you through it
You do what you have to do
I have the sense to recognize
That I don't know how to let you go
Every moment marked
With apparitions of your soul
I'm ever swiftly moving
Trying to escape this desire
The yearning to be near you
I do what I have to do
The yearning to be near you
I do what I have to do
And I have the sense to recognize
That I don't know how to let you go
I don't know how to let you go
Glowing ember
Burning hot and burning slow
Deep within I'm shaken
By the violence of existing for only you
I know I can't be with you
I do what I have to do
I know I can't be with you
I do what I have to do
And I have the sense to recognize
But I don't know how to let you go
I don't know how to let you go

4 commentsA Tale of Two Superheroes?
Today, while i was being super bored and supposedly sleepy, i decided to procrastinate my sleep (why would i do that, i don't know. it's sleep! i shdn't procrastinate sleeping!!) and hang around on Facebook while i could still open my eyes. Saw a McD request from Margie, and after accepting it, i thought of sending her some McD Hotcakes, cos we both simply ADORE those piping hot puffy sweet pancakes from ours truly, McDonald's, ever since we tasted it in Singapore when we were kids. hahaha..
Turns out, i was 2 levels away from being able to unlock the hotcakes. So, one of my option was to upload a gift so i can upgrade my level. (Gosh.. Facebook and the things we do with it. Ridiculously addictive. Seriously.). So, while i was googling for a picture of Spicy Chicken McDeluxe (can't believe this yummy burger wasn't on the menu yet!), i was directed to this website:

A TALE OF TWO SUPERHEROES
LOLS... My first reaction when i saw the name of the blog, was "WHAT??! Someone used my blog's title format! DAMN!..." Then my second reaction when i read their bloggers profile:
"We are two superheroes with abnormal capacity and desire for food, travelling places and enjoying the best life has to offer..."
"What does Superheroes have to do with food?!"
Ok, besides the fact that superheroes need food to survive (rite?) or maybe these superheroes get their power from food... But calling themselves superheroes just because they have some 'abnormal' capacity and desire for food?? I think Vincent can join their league and be their leader cos he's a SUPER SUPERHERO when it comes to food! hehe... =P
Anyways, these two bloggers are a couple who go around exploring and experimenting with food around Malaysia then blog about each and EVERY single food/drink they had almost everyday (even the 7-up is super important). -.-" Nonetheless, the food pictures they uploaded were aplenty.. and it ranges from high class food, to roadside stall hawker food, to pasar malam super cheap bites. All these pics only reminded me of the yummy Malaysian delicacies i can't have in Canada... I want LAKSA!!!!! *roars*
Anyways.. it's like so funny just reading their blog. They talk from a third person's perspective. Calling each other, even their mum, Superhero X (whereby X could be S, W, Bro or Mum etc.. to keep their identity a secret.) haha.. They even have their own superhero cartoon! lols...
I dunnno why i'm turning this blog into an ad for them, but this "award-winning" blog is pretty interesting - for those staying in KL - cos the food they mostly talk about is in KL or states close by. And these superheroes like many others (with the exception of Batman n Ironman), ain't that rich, so the food they go for are pretty much cheap. So, go check it out! You mite even end up wanting to try the food they 'discovered' and 'experimented' (or maybe not). Though they may be so called extraordinary ppl when it comes to food, their tastebuds are pretty much ordinary just like us. So, u mite have tasted most of the food they have eaten. However! Do not fret. I assure you, their blog is a highly extraordinary entertaining one. I guarantee, you'll definitely get a laughter or two!! Don't believe me? See here.
Now you see what i mean?? hahaha...
That's all about my little exciting experience for today.
Two more mid-terms, an assignment and a presentation in the following weeks.. Gotta stay focus now. Sighs.. Wish me luck! =D

2 commentsIl mio ventiduesimo compleanno...
It's the time of the year again...
Another year has come and gone, and now i'm a year older.. hopefully wiser too? Or maybe "blur"er? =S Either way, i'm aging! Oh no!!! hahaha..
I still remember my 21st birthday like it was just yesterday. I was rushing for my Multimedia project and my group was creating this crazy fantastic computer game which we creatively named it AVIG (A Very Interesting Game) LOLs!!! We actually procrastinated till the very last week, and eventually the last day to start on it cos the guy we asked to "help" us create the game (as in do the whole damn thing for us) fell sick right before the deadline and hasn't touched a single thing!! So 5 of us: Kialing, YenSun, SinYee, Mary and I had to burn extra virgin midnight oil (i heard it was better than regular oil. haha.. lame.) on the eve of my bday to come up with a game we proposed earlier on without even thinking how we're gonna do it. Sweats.. Luckily, some of us were actually paying attention in different parts of the CMM211 class, so that we could combine all our valuable 'berterabuh' knowledge to actually use Macromedia Director. haha.. We started from scratch, spent roughly 24 hours (5pm, 8th - 5pm, 9th Oct) and finally came up with the game. I rmb feeling so depressed on the eve of my 21st bday cos i couldn't count down to it!!! And the sad thing was, no one even knew it was my bday the next day. So i had to celebrate it secretly by myself when the clock struck 12. hahaha... But in the end, it was worth every single minute of it. Our game turned out to be the BEST among our coursemates' (from our point of view and comments from friends la). Cheh... haha. [Promo: If anyone wants to try AVIG, ask from me on msn k? hehe..] Well, after rushing for almost a day, Vince then brought me to Chillis for a very nice dinner. It was good. Ahh... memories. =)
Ok, getting back to topic.
There must be something wrong with the alignment of my stars.. because this year, the same thing happens again! Well, not exactly the SAME thing, but my birthday falls on the same day as my Linguistics mid term!!! Bloody hell.. i had to study all day on the eve of my bday... memorising concepts like spirantization, glottalic egressive mechanism, delayed release, trills, retroflexes, bla bla bla.. Why so cham??? Every year also a busy birthday...
However, this year was different. I get to celebrate my birthday in Canada!!! hehehe.. I'm 15 hours behind Malaysia which is like almost a day later. When the other side of the world was already 9th oct, i was still in 8th oct! So fun!! haha.. Cool huh? That's why, when i was stuffing linguistic concepts into my overloaded brain, many warm wishes from friends back home in Malaysia were posted on Facebook wall and msn windows kept popping up. It was so heart-warming it made me side-tracked from my studies. lol. Plus, when everyone keeps telling me "why bother studying so hard if i'm not transfering credit?" it makes me wanna not study at all.. haha. But somehow i just felt like i should study for this. I really wanna do well in this ridiculously tough paper. Don't ask me why.
While i was studying, Joeyin came and started chatting with me n Christina. Making plans for my birthday. And when gals chat, we don't stop till everything has been told. (Joeyin, you're such a bad influence! =P) We chatted and chatted.. n then i realised, i shd be studying! Barely minutes into the mood.. Joeyin came barging into my room with a tupperware and a card!! It was 12am!! I was surprised. She got me a brownie!! Thanks sayang.. =) It came just at the rite moment, cos i was craving for food from using too much brain power. haha.. My housemates came into my room, and we chatted more! It felt so great.
After all the little commotion in my room subsided, i continued to study till 4.30am because i panicked when i realised i have no idea what my coursemates were discussing about on the class discussion board. (Note to self: NEVER EVER look at the board before a test. Those ppl will mess with your mind!!) Then 9.30am came, it was time for the test. The paper wasn't that hard.. yet wasn't that easy. Anyhow i managed to finished every question. And rite now, as long as i pass i'm happy. After the paper, i happily skipped back home. I can now celebrate my 22nd in Canada!!! YAYS!!!
For dinner, we had hotpot (a.k.a. steamboat) as we watched Casablanca! Cold weather, hotpot, classic movie.. it was the perfect combo! We made hotpot with our ex-occupant's left behind slow cooker - which never brings the water to a boil - so we had to cook the soup separately before pouring into the big slow cooker. Altho it was lot of work, it was fun and simply great!! And after dinner, we went out to Alma to a dessert shop called True Confections (don't u just love the name?). It was a famous shop apparently, and when we got there, it was almost fulll and with good reason. The cakes were truly marvelous! I had chocolate caramel pecan CHEESECAKE and it was heaven!!! Sinfully delicious... *drools*.

And with this, i'll leave you guys with pics of those yummy cakes. Enjoy! hehe.. =P
Christina's rich cheesy Tiramisu
Joeyin's Lemon Heaven

A very tempting Banana Cream Pie
Look at the pies!!
Oh and, thanks to my darlings Joeyin, Norven and of cos Vincent dear for the lovely lovely birthday cards... Love u guys!! *muaks* =D

7 commentsQuizzes, Assignments & Passion of the Christ
After many lack-of-sleep nights, finally, ALL my linguistics quiz n assignment and Italian quiz for this week is OVER!!! Whew~ what a relief. This week had been a reality check for me i guess. A reminder, that we're here to study and not just travel around!!! Mid-terms are around the corner, it's time to head for the books. Sighs.. I seriously wished i had come to UBC next term instead. Why isn't there a mid-term break for the Winter term?!! Arghh... So not fun.
Last night: my table being covered with the huge italian textbook, my notebook and my laptop showing the online italian dictionary. haha..
Today: after italian quiz, i lunched alone on the patio above SUB.
Reading the papers, eating piping hot veggie burrito, watching the rain.. nice combo! =)
The italian list of 81 'green' vocabs tht i had to memorise n pass up today.
Got it back after the quiz and turns out i got a " V+ "!
I dunno wat "V" means.. but i was the only one with a "+" sign.
Should be good news rite?! hehe.. At least my efforts weren't in vain. =P
Anyways, after walking home in the rain, i decided i should watch a movie accompanied by a nice cuppa hot choc to reward myself. haha.. And so i open my folder of movies on my external hard disk and scanned for a movie to watch. Suddenly, i spotted The Passion of the Christ among the collection of comical or nonsensical movies. I thought, it's time i watch this widely acclaimed yet strongly criticised movie. I know i'm like soooo outdated to watch this only now. Even those non-Christians must have watched this a dozens times more than me. But it's never too late rite? haha..
In the beginning, I felt that the movie was weirdly creepy and foreboding. Can't really describe it. And with the movie being in Aramaic, Latin and Hebrew, it really created a whole foreign feeling. Then it started to get emotional and till a point gruesome. Out of the 126 mins in total, almost 99 mins were graphical detailed scenes of the torture and death of Jesus. The scenes were so real, so horrifying and so intense that i was weeping my eyes out! Seriously... Luckily my room door was locked and joeyin was watching another movie in her room. haha.. But after watching this movie, i must say that Mel Gibson truly did an amazing job in sending out the message. Though many have been criticising him and his work.. the important thing is that it all boils down to a message of love, hope, faith, and forgiveness. With the world being in such a huge mess right now, we could all use a little more love, faith, hope, and forgiveness. So go spread some love u guys! Love should be in the air!! =D
Jim Caviezel was practically covered in blood and seeing only through his left eye 95% of the movie. Just wanted to say, his eyes are HOT!! lols.. =P
Oh wells, it's time to watch another movie! Must enjoy this weekend before more mid-terms n presentation take over my days and nights in the coming weeks... HAHA! Ciao!!

0 commentsO Canada!
29 Aug 2008 (30th in M'sia)
After almost 19 hours of agonizing flights and transits, I finally touched down in Vancouver, Canada at roughly 12.35pm (GMT -7 = -15 hrs from Sg n M'sia). Yays!!!
As everyone on board the plane was taking their baggage down, i was feeling a little nervous about Canada. It was a kind of strange feeling not knowing what the future holds in a foreign land. Anyways, i got all my things and got off the plane.. and as i walk n walk, i kept looking behind for Joeyin.. but she wasn't there! Something told me i forgot to do something.. but i just couldn't think of at that moment. So, i waited in between the arrival gate n plane area for her. And when i saw her.. it finally struck me that i've left something important on board!! You'll never guess what i left behind.. It's kinda embarassing to say, really. But for the sake of my readers.. i shall tell u all the truth...
I forgot to smuggle the SIA blanket!!!! hahahaha... It's this very nice baby blue fleece (i think tht's wat it's called) blanket. And it's from Givenchy!! Well, that's besides point. The point is.. that blanket was suppose to be my one and only blanket! That is unless i buy a new one here.. But for the first few days, that blanket is to be my only shield at night!! So, while everyone else was departing the plane, i made the incredible journey back towards the airplane and told the air stewardess that i left my watch behind so that she would let me back in. Well, she believed me and said i could go in, but she told me to leave my big hand carry at the entrance while i squeeze my way in. OMG..plan kinda ruined, cos i only have space for the blanket in my hand carry.. But there wasn't a choice as there's really no way i could carry that bag in the opposite direction of everyone and not attract attention. I left my bag there and prayed my backpack would expand magically. I went right back to my seat.. pretend to look for my watch.. and quickly stuffed the big blanket into my already sardine-packed backpack. Surprisingly, it fit! Though you could see my bag almost exploding at the seams. haha.. Whew~! Happily i walked back out the plane beaming from ear to ear knowing i have stolen a treasure from SIA. hehehe.. I know it's a very cheapskate thing to do, but i'd like to think that desperate times calls for desperate measures.. And it was a desperate time then! lol..
To think the first thing i did in Canada was to steal from a plane! Gosh.. HAHA!
Anyways, we went on to immigrations clearance. It was a long queue... So many ppl were coming into Canada! There was even one special room just for students on study permit. And that room alone had like 4 counters in there. Well, too bad i wasn't one of them in that room. I was categorised with all the other visitors and residents of canada. It was interesting though, that almost half the long line was Asians! It's like we stepped into a mini Singapore of some sort. Odd. It wasn't exactly what i expected.. but there were many good looking ppl nonetheless! hehe.. Many of them were tourists that just came back from China. And that's very obvious, cos they were all carrying some sort of Beijing lympics souvenir. I wonder when will i have the chance to go watch an Olympics event in person..
Another weird thing is... Canadian immigration will slash your Canada visa once you enter!!! Stupid ppl.. They used a black pen to cross out my visa.. so hard.. that my visa tore! Ok, not tore into two.. but there's a small tear. But still...WTH! Sighs.. now i can't show a beautiful Canadian visa when i open my passport. Damn!
Went to collect my luggage... and what a shock and disappointment i got. My luggage was "mishandled"! What i meant was it was spoiled!! The handle where i can push and pull up to pull the trolley bag, was missing! Well, not the whole handle gone.. but the very crucial button to push it out was gone!! The whole part gone just like that. Now how am i to pull the super duper heavy bag?! *wails* Luckily i just have to push it on a trolley.. but the bag has become practically half useless now! WHY does this happen to me la?? I don't think i could make a complain to SIA, cos i couldn't find any of the office there, so i just gave up. Sighs.. Please don't tell me they would have compensated me with a new bag.. cos i don't wanna know. Sighs.. =(
Out the airport.. and onto a gloomy Vancouver day. It was raining before we got there.. and still drizzling when we came out.. What luck we had.. But the weather wasn't really that cold. It was like being in a windy aircon room.. hehe.. Not that bad.. (at first).
When we were on the plane, that Nizar guy told us that there was a shuttle bus service to Downtown where YWCA is... but when we got there, we were told that we should take a cab instead cos the price don't differ that much, plus the bus doesn't really go there. So we took a cab instead. The service was pretty efficient i'd say.. And all the cabs come equipped with a metre, a GPS monitor, AND a security camera! hahaha.. it was weird.. As though seeing ppl drive on the left side wasn't weird enough, there's even a camera watching our every move at the back! ahaha... But it's cool.
OK, the first thing i noticed about Vancouver besides the cool weather, was the cars! Almost everyone here drives a really good beautiful car! Mini coopers were everywhere. BMWs were abundant, like Protons in Malaysia.. Convertibles like Kancil! Gosh.. What a feast for my eyes it was on our long journey into Downtown.. Took a few pics of the cars at first.. then realised there was no need for it.. cos they're practically everywhere! Siens..
It was quite a sight all the way to our destination. And finally we arrived at YWCA! The place we were gonna stay for one night. It was prettier than what i expected. Like a 3.8 star hotel in Malaysia. haha.. Service was great. The receptionist welcomed us warmly on that rainy, day. And gave us pretty useful directions and suggestions on where to take a bus n find cheap good food. The room was well equipped too. Love it!

After freshening ourselves up, we planned to drop by UBC's International House that evening itself to report in.. So, in the rain we took a bus all the way to UBC.. it was nearly 4.30 pm and still raining when when we got there. We got off the bus and realised we were kinda lost. The campus was sooooo huge... we didn't know where to find ihouse.. After looking at the map, we considered it was too far and too short a time to risk it.. and just took the bus back to downtown. hahaha.. That was a $2.50 wasted trip. Sweats.
Back in downtown.. we sort of got lost again. haha.. Because we were told that the nearest bus stop to YWCA was Pender St. We thought we should get down where we got up the bus previously. So we took the same #4 bus... and waited for our stop.. But our stop never came. It was scary.. we thought we had missed our stop, cos in between i did dozed off a little. But i was awake when the bus passed through the other side of downtown (according to our little map) and i swear we didn't pass by Pender! So we quickly took out our map and starting looking at where the bus's going. As we turned and turned the map, this kind guy sitting next to Joeyin asked us where we're heading to. When we told him we were planning to get down at Pender.. he said, "Oh no, i think you have missed your stop.. this bus doesn't pass by Pender anymore. Right now you're like waaay over here (points to an invisible area off the map)". OMG!!! We were like, stunned on the bus.. then we asked him if the bus would turn back later.. he was like "Er.. yeah i think the bus would probably turn back a few blocks from here.".. Well, it wasn't very convincing.. but it was soothing to know, we could be turning back.. And before he got off, he wished us Good Luck! haha.. As it turns out, the bus was stopping at the last station.. we went to ask the driver and he said, "yeah this bus does go to Pender, but later." Meaning, we had to wait on the bus till the bus makes the turning back towards UBC. Sighs.. Luckily we weren't completely lost. hehe..
In the end, we managed to get our way back to the familiar Pender St. Since it was dinner time, we went to search for food.. But SIA had fed us tooo well, that we weren't really that hungry. Plus it was the first day, and everything seemed so expensive to us. haha.. So we entered the first 7-Eleven store we could find, bought water and a muffin. Canadians have a huge thing for muffins. Then we headed back to YWCA in the rain.. The rain wasn't exactly like the rain in Malaysia. It's very very tiny that u can't see it.. yet u'll definitely feel wet.. And with the wind blowing.. you'll feel more cold, than wet. haha.. It was a good thing i heeded Kimly's advice and brought my umbrella to Canada. Or else, we would have been soaking and freezing! =D
30 Aug 2008
Packed up our bags again and headed to UBC. Had to call a cab cos there was no way we were gonna carry it all by bus.. Reached our Thunderbird residence office at around 11.30am. Luckily our room was ready before the check-in time of 12pm. =) Received our big bunch of keys (5 keys in total!) and proceeded to drag (n i mean literally, since my stupid luggage had no handle trolley handle now) our luggages across one block of buildings.. When we finally reached our residence.. it was bliss! Well, apart from the house's messed up condition, our rooms were perfect. We played detective and found out our single housemate is a lady, who speaks portuguese, loves to cook and has lots of stuffs! Gosh.. you should have seen her things..
Anyhow, we couldn't delay longer.. so we headed to ihouse and reported ourselves in for GALA orientation. We were fortunate, cos we were just in time for the GALA BBQ lunch! hehe.. So, we headed straight to the Flag Pole PLaza and took our lunch.. and searched for out group. We saw every other groups, but ours. In the end, when we found our leader, she told us.. we were her only grp members now, cos she's lost the rest. hahaha.. Her name's Chih-Yu - a very good-boyish-looking girl who reminds me a lot of our convent junior, wat's her name i can't rmb. I think it's Allison's st.john junior, tht's very good at rapping n hip-hop, then became a model de leh... ah! my memory's failing me! hehe..
Our first orientation program was "Canada Eh?". The talk was to introduce us to Canadian n UBC's culture and apparently, the term "eh" was coined by canadians! It was pretty interesting. Learnt a lot of new things from there - like how to pronounce some canadian words, how UBC has their own Royal Canadian Mounted Police, how ppl in Canada don't really wanna know how are things with you when they say "Hi, how's it going? *sweats*.. They also had sketches to show us how a student life is in UBC.

UBC Vancouver's campus is really huge.. almost double the size of USM and slightly bigger than NUS. It's a place lined up with beautiful plants, amazing architecture and has lots of squirrels! It seems that on Facebook there's a group that says, "UVic may have bunnies, but UBC has squirrels and a respectable degree!". haha.. Really funny. And it's so true!! Everyday i'd see at least 2 squirrels.. and let me tell u.. the squirrels here are very very well fed. And so are the crows and seagulls.
The first night in UBC - view from my room.
I just love the houses opp. LOVERLY!

I was awoken by sounds outside my room. the next day. I opened my door and found my new housemate chatting with Joeyin! Her name's Sancha, a final year student here.. and she's a (half actually, as pointed out by Joeyin.) Portuguese living in Canada. A very friendly person.. Was getting to know her really well, but we found out she's moving out soon! (That explains the mess.) Such a pity.. She was real nice and she bakes! She offered us some of her self-made chocolate zucchini cake. Delicious!! And she learns Capoeira! How cool is that..

Last Day of Orientation:
The last day started with an early morning walk from Thunderbird to ihouse for pancake breakfast! Thoughts of pancakes was the only thing that made me woke up so early on a saturday morning. It was a bright sunny day.. and so on the way, i took many photos.. After breakfast it was exploring UBC by ourselves time.. and then the final meet up with my group at the flag pole again. We sat there, suntanning, chatted and made new friends.. =D

It was then time for lunch! We attended the World Cafe lunch program at ihouse conducted by the International Peer Program (IPP) for us newcomers.. Another free food event not to be missed. Ever since we got to UBC.. anything FREE is a MUST GO! haha..
(subway sandwich, portuguese egg tart, sushi, cookie)
At last, the orientation ended... we then headed to the bookstore to check out our textbooks but alas, the store was closed. Nevertheless, we managed to explore and did lots of stuff on our way back.

(Batman had to save 'Gotham City' from Joker and Scar Face. lol.)
(which we took a few to put in our room. hehe.)
And lastly, i shall leave you with a picture of the lavender and pine cones we picked up on the way back and is now proudly being displayed in my room. hehe.. =)
